Tech Specs and Bargains

I've been asked to post the technical specs of the car now that the conversion is complete. Here is our page on www.EValbum.com

Another good page is EVtradinpost.com. One of the things I've learned is that some real bargains can be found. One common story is that somebody does a conversion and uses lead acid batteries. Five or six years later, the batteries are fading and the car is no longer viewed as very useful. Memories fade and the owner has less appreciation for all the time and money invested in the conversion and offers the car for sale at a huge discount. If someone were to get it and replace the batteries with lithium, it would be a very easy way to acquire an affordable EV.

  1. EVtradeinpost is down for a new home. I’m very interested in the overall configuration. I gather you ditched the clutch but kept the transmission. How much engine bay was impinged upon by the motor in that arrangement? What did the mounting look like? I guess it would be pretty slow accelerating without some reduction, but woudn’t it be better to get the motor back farther?

    1. You got it. Without the clutch, you just let off the accelerator, push the stick shift into the next gear and go. The acceleration is so good, you need to start in 2nd gear. 1st gear just peels out too much.

The motor is a WarP-9 and sits down low, directly inline with the drive shaft. The Soliton 1 power controller is mounted above that. Since we lived on a dusty dirt road, I used a blower + filter to force air through the motor.
